Q: How is the Audi Service/Warranty?
I am interested in answers from current or previous Audi factory owners (owners with warranty). How is your experience with them?
Is it costly like Mercedes (have to overpay for everything... nothing is ever covered free)?
Or is it like BMW (almost everything is covered under warranty) with terrific customer service/warranty?
Or maybe somewhere in between? Please explain!
I love the Audi's, but I will never buy another car that has terrible service like Mercedes-Benz.
A: My wife has a VW, there is one dealer and they do have some bad business practices. The dealer at 2hr drive is the best (will give you a loner if is 24hr or more, gives you a ride to work and back, complimentary car wash/vacuum) ! So is not VW Audi fault is the dealer's management that makes a good one or a bad one. Like franchises of a fast food chain.
The maintenance is pretty easy. In the VW Maintenance Booklet says clearly that you (as the owner) can do your own maintenance as long you provide proof of purchase like Oil, Filter, etc. The Owner's Manual tells you when and what to check. I did it for my wife's VW and is every 10,000 miles. So is pretty darn easy if you can follow the book. Most consist of, checking fluids and any monkey can do that and tire rotation. The big stuff like timing belts, I let the dealer handle that. That is once, maybe during your ownership of the vehicle.
Regular maintenance items are cheap. Their labor is not. Every dealer over priced their items. So the oil, for example, is VW Audi 502 or 505 specs. Go to the Auto Part store and look for the specs on the back of the can. It has to be Synthetic, so in any car that uses that type of oil, is expensive too (like $6 a quart). Is better oil and last the 10,000 miles so there are less frequent oil changes and saves you money.
Parts as headlights, and other things, they are very expensive, like any Japanese crap too. Beside, that is NOT maintenance related item.
Warranty related issues are free, so where is the expensive part at?
Good luck !

Q: audi service cost?
how much should I expect to pay for a service for an Audi 100s 1993. It has 170,000 miles
A: Audi dealers bill labor at over $125 an hour
a major tuneup at the dealership can cost you $900

have you replaced the timing belt?
the water pump on Audi vehicles is often driven by the timing belt or timing chain, replacing the pump while it’s accessible is a smart idea in the long run
go to a certified independent Audi shop much better than the dealer who cares little about the customers once they sell you the car. It should cost between $1,000 to 1,600 if you go to an independent.
a dealer can charge $2,500 to change the timing belt, tensioner and water pump with a labor rate of $137/hr.
Q: reset audi a4 service indicator?
I just tuned up my 2003 audi a4 1.8 turbo. I managed to reset the service so that no miles/days display. It displays "---".
How can I get it to reset to 50,000 as my next interval ? I saw other posts, but they seemed to reset it to "---" and not the miles. Thanks.
A: You can reprogram with Vag-Com on most models. Not sure about yours. Check the Ross-Tech website for more information.
Q: How do I reset the service light for a 02' Audi A4?
I just had the oil changed yesterday (7/5/06).
If possible is there a diagram to make it easier.
A: Just take it back in and tell them they forgot to reset it.
Q: We are looking for a reputable place to perform timing belt service on a 1998 Audi a4 reasonably priced?
We are in the vernon ct.area
A: I own a Audi A4 2000. And what I found is that Audi's are very complex machines. Most mechanics (non audi) do not have a clue to what is involved in doing Audi timing belt. So my recommendation when it comes to timing belt is to go to real Audi dealer.
But call around to different dealer. I found that they do NOT all charge the same price. And depending on you car model, you might get away with NOT doing water pump change (normally done together). My 2000 A4 water pump is on the outside and NOT driven by the timing belt. Even by 2000.5 the water pump design was changed again to be driven by timing belt. Ask the dealer.
My original dealer (Beiner of Long Island) wanted $1500 for timing belt and water pump. They never even asked me about the water pump as optional swap. The second dealer (Anchor Audi of Long Island) wanted something like $1100. Without the water pump swap, it only cost me $850 (total). Anchor Audi also found few work done by "previous mechanics" wrong (they showed me). That previous mechanics was Beiner audi (sucky workmanship).
Good Luck.
Q: Audi Advantage service question! Dealer wants to charge me!!?
I own and 2005.5 A4 2.0T with 21,000 miles on it. My Service Indicator in my dash says I need service in 100 miles. I called my dealership to schedule an appointment. The service rep I spoke with said that this was considered an "In-between Service" and was NOT coverend under Audi's Advantage Warranty (4yrs/50K). I was wondering if this was legit or not. If it is, how much $ am I looking at (probably just need an oil change, and maybe pads....)
A: I think he is giving you a hard time because it is 1k miles over the 20k mark. But from reading the 2004 service schedule which should still apply to 2005(Audi doesn't have one on their website), it says you're not due for an oil change until 25k miles. Normally they change the special factory fill oil early at 5k, due to engine break in particulates & metal shavings. Then start the 10k change interval. 5k-15k-25k
Even though the counter goes by 10k mile marks. Maybe the service writer is confused on when your last oil change was made or when the next one should take place, or the misguided Audi tech reset the service countdown indicator improperly during the first or last oil change. I believe it can be coded to count at 5 and 10k intervals. I'm not sure if some services are supposed to be done every 5k miles like in the past. Try taking it to another dealer. It doesn't matter which one you get it serviced at. Some service writers are meaner than Lord Vaders Force choke hold. Others will replace your engine if it farts, just to keep you as a customer.
If it's the scheduled 10k mile interval then it should be free. Oil changes are always free until the 50k mile mark except for 2007 models. From what I read, they're getting stingy with other things like only 1 free alignment every year and such. But brake pads and rotors should still be free if they warp or have problems. They updated it for 2006 models which does not affect you. For 2007 they've pretty much eliminated free maint. / oil changes completely, unless you prepay $590 for Audi Advantage.
You should be using synthetic 5w40 VW 502.00, 505.00 & 505.01 spec oil with this engine as well. 10k miles is way too far between changes without using synth on a turbo engine. And I guarantee you the dealer is not using it. Ask them how much EXTRA it will cost and you might be surprised. You can get the good stuff, Mobil 1 0w40 or ELF, Motul, Pentosynth. Pentosynth is avail at the link below. It's probably cheaper to buy it online than let the dealer rape you on the price. In fact it WILL be cheaper to do this oil change yourself by buying the filter and oil, if the dealer insists on you paying for it. About $25-32 for oil, and not sure for your filter from the dealer, should be about $15. ECS has it for $10. A tool might be needed since it might be a canister filter on newer Audi. But the tool isn't required, just makes it easier. Doing maintenance on your car and knowing it's done RIGHT; there's no better feeling in the world.
You can also get a printout from the dealer as to what parts and service is done at each interval, and it will include the price for cars that are out of warranty. And it's always cheaper to take it to a Euro shop when it's out of warranty.
Q: How do I reset the service light for a 99' Audi A4?
I just had the oil changed last week....
A: Turn the key to the key on/engine off position and hold the reset button for your odometer/trip meter for 5 seconds. Continue holding while you start the car.
