Q: What does it take to import an Audi A4 Diesel TDI into the U.S.?
I want to import an Audi A4 TDI Diesel into the U.S. I know Audi does not sell them here because of the tough exhaust regulations. So passing the DMV inspection I imagine is difficult. Are there modifications needed to make it legal here? I plan to covert it to run on vegetable oil. Might this help it pass the emissions test (given that is the only barrier to entry)?

A: A huge task, maybe impossible. You'd have to have the car converted by a professional conversion company to all EPA and DOT specs and you'll have to put up a large bond with the gov't to insure this is done. If you do not comply by a certain date, your car will be seized, and either deported or destroyed. It doesn't matter how "clean" your car burns. It has to meet all the EPA and DOT specs in terms of hardware.

Q: How do I change a 97 1.9 TDi Audi A4 Auxiliary Drive Belt?
My Auxiliary drive belt snapped a few days ago, I have since gotten hold of a new belt and need to put it in. I heard that you loosen the bolt at the top, slide the first wheel across, put the belt on and then tighten the first wheel back up again, as it will automatically adjust itself. Is this the way it's done? Does anybody have a diagram on which way the belt is meant to go? Or any links to such diagrams? Many thanks, John

A: The place where you bought the belt has the pictures! Pep boys , Autozone Etc.

Q: Where can I find an Audi A4 (2002) 100 Bph 1.9 TDi Manual (Black if possible) for under £8000 in the UK?
I'm specifically looking to buy an Audi A4 Diesel TDi 100Bhp (minimum 1.9l 2001 maximum 2.0l 2002). I've checked the various car sites (cargiant.co.uk and usedcartrader.co.uk), ebay and auctions and it seems that the Car auctions are working out the cheapest at the moment... any thoughts or helpful links?

A: If you are interested in buying a car, but feel as though you simply do not have the money, a government car auction might be the best opportunity for you. You can find incredible deals, and it is not uncommon for people to save thousands of dollars. whether you’re in the market for a new automobile or not. You’ll find that, at a government seized auto auction, there is a huge variety of automobiles available for you to bid on. The majority of vehicles at a government car auction have been repossessed from criminals or people who have failed to make payments on government loans. There are also government car auction vehicles that are "retired" police cruisers or other government vehicles that are no longer in service. You can usually find a wide range of makes and models, Not many people know about government seized auto auctions, so there will not be a lot of competition for vehicles that you’re bidding on. There are so many different vehicles to choose from, you’re bound to find one that will become someone’s next dream car. Whether you want to buy a car to re-sell, or you’re looking for a car for yourself or a child, a government seized auto auction is the best place to look for an affordable used vehicle. Well,You can check out http://www.vehicle-auction.info/index.php?t=vehicle ,this site lists top 5 goverment car online auction sites for you to choose,It really is that easy.

Q: Blue smoke from my Audi A4 TDI... What does is mean?
Mainly when i'm doing round town driving, low speeds etc I get blue smoke from my Audi A4 TDi 2.5. But when its motorways or good country roads etc it doesnt smoke even when i put my foot down. It is due its service 110.000m could this help, it doesnt lack any performance at all. could it be the Turbo... what tests can I do???

A: Blue smoke is usually a sign that you're burning oil. Just take it to the shop and tell them the symptom - and maybe ask if it's from burning oil so they think you know a little something about cars.

Q: When do I have to change cam belt in Audi TDI?

A: Four cylinder tend to need a belt at 55,000 and six cylinder at 75,000. There can also be variations to theses mileages depending on exact model, engine type and year of manufacture, it could be worth checking with your local Audi dealer just to get a definite answer.

Q: What's problem with Volkswagen and Audi diesel engine?
I'm interested in Volkswagen and Audi TDI engine. But I don't know that TDI engine's serious problem What's problem with Volkswagen and Audi diesel engine? Please help me increase of my diesel knowledge.

A: The engines will self destruct if they have a timing belt rather than a timing chain and the belt breaks, so make sure to have the timing belt (and maybe water pump and belt tensioner pulley) changed at no more than 100,000 miles or 7 years, or whatever the manufacturer specifies in your manual. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/tsbsearch.cfm http://www.mycarstats.com/ http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/MaintenanceServlet Enter make year model above

Q: can i swap my mk3 golf diesel engine for an audi a3 tdi engine or even a tt tdi engine?
I want a little more power in my car and have decided i want an engine swap...ive seen mk3 gti having an engine swap to an r32 engine i just want to know if my proposed idea is possible...thank you

A: Yes but it's difficult. The engine mounting points are different and you would have to make custom mounts. You would have to figure out how to integrate the motor, electronics, instrument cluster, etc. Since you are asking this question, you probably don't have the mechanical experience to do it. The cost of paying someone else to do it is so expensive you could just buy a TT TDI.

A: first get he instruction manel for the car. If you need to take it back read the copyright print near the back. I suggest you go to the local garage and get it looked at. You could be spilling petrol everywhere! (it could be leaking) thanks bye

Q: Black smoke from Audi A4 19. TDI?
Hi Guys, just bough myself a 96 (N) 1.9 Audi A4 TDI. When it gets upto 2000rpm a plume of black smoke comes out of the exhaust. I have changed the air filter but it still does it. Now a cant here the Turbo spin up either. could the turbo be on its way out? Injector cleaner hasnt done anything either.

A: These engines recycle exhaust fumes when they run part throttle (EGR) and over time there could be a buildup of sludge in the manifold. This clogs the manifold and restricts the air passing through. When the flow is reduced, the engine gets less air but still sees the expected boost level. Since the ECU uses manifold pressure to measure turbo boost, it's providing too much diesel. You will probably have to have it inspected and cleaned - pretty straight forward job, but very messy work. You have a VNT turbo, its possible that this isn't working correctly either because of carbon build-up. If so, you get massive low-down boost and the engine just wont rev.

Q: BMW 320D Vs Audi A4 TDI which one to buy...?
i have a BMW 320d se 2002 model, just had a test drive in the new Audi A4 tdi 1.9 2006 model.. very impressed... had a test drive also in the new BMW 320D SE ..not impressed..!! read all the reports on both cars..my wife is not sure about the Audi..bad reports etc.. but need advice on the Audi, which would convinced my wife.. Thanks

A: I have sold BMWs and Audis at different times. If you think BMWs don't have problems, then think again. Audi has a bad rap because Audi owners are extremely well educated, well researched and very demanding of their cars. Hence a minor glitch becomes a reason for complaint. BMW owners in general (not to paint with a broad brush) are clueless, having bought the nameplate blindly. The same is reflected in surveys. BMW owners in general are afraid to speak negatively about their "prize" because it is a status symbol and they don't want to appear disloyal. On the other hand, Audi owners have no qualms about displaying their dissatisfaction. Did you know that almost every first edition Bangle-esque 7 series was replaced in the first year of ownership with a brand new 7 series at no cost to the owner? Of course you didn't because BMW did such an effective job at suppressing that information. All cars have problems. Otherwise why would Lexus (the epitome of reliability) have a full service garage at the dealership? Audi is not trouble free, but it is a superior built, nicer appointed, understated marquee that is always a pleasure to drive. It is also the choice of intellectuals. :)
