Q: 1991 Audi 100 has trouble in reverse when warm?
My 1991 Audi 100 is a joy to drive... Unless it's warmed up and you want to go into reverse. We need to sell this car as my husband lost his job, but people are either scared away by the dreaded "transmission problem *gasp*" or they think they're going to get it for peanuts. Does anyone know what the problem is/might be?
A: You have a transmission fluid pump for the reverse gear and a 2nd one for all forward gears. Something is wrong with the pump. Your transmission problem could be the result of neglect if you haven't been flushing your fluid at least every 40,000 miles. Flushing the transmission now may fix the problem, it may make it worse, or it might not make any change at all.
The first step is to find out that your transmission fluid level is correct by checking the dipstick with engine at operating temperature while idling in Park. DO NOT OVERFILL.
NOTE: your fluid doesn't get thin when it gets old, it gets THICK and dark due to contamination. The darker it is, the longer it's been siting there.
Q: 1993 audi 100-5amp fuse for dashboard burns out right away after installing?
Dashboard has no lights. Any clues on which fuse might be shorting? Anyone expereinced something similar? Are there any other sites where I can ask questions to audi owners? ThANKS.
A: You obviously have a powered wire grounding somewhere either through relay, connector or chaffed wire. Sorry there are no shortcuts for a problem like this.
Q: How do i jump start a 1994 audi 100 (where is the battery) ??
It is a UK spec
A: The battery is hidden away under the back seat. But all is not lost, raise the hood (sorry, you said UK) bonnet and look. There will be a jump start terminal there, probably under an obvious red plastic covering. Use the bolt on the alternator as the negative. Make sure the wires are clear of all the belts and the fan.
Q: Do you know how to fix the differential lock button on an audi 100?
It is a 1989, also i have heard that they cant be switched between awd and rwd so what this be for?
A: For locking the car.
Q: 1993 audi 100. Where can I get the code to reset the sound system?
it has anti theft and stopped working after changing the battery.
A: Call the dealer. It happened to me.
Q: Does anyone know why the coolant would leak in a audi 100 cs in the front bottom of the engine?
I am looking to know what could be leaking it is not from a hose, but under the alternator and above oil pan
A: Water pump is bad... You will have to remove the timing belt... replace it as well. I've found really good Audi parts prices at http://www.highspeedautoparts.com/ Good luck
Q: I have an 1994 Audi 100 a warning sign that looks like a bomb with an X through it has been popping up ?
What does this warning mean?
A: This is, as the previous answer states, a bulb out warning. Although if you do not have a bulb out it could be a problem with the car's on board computer.
Q: How do I set a timing belt for 1994 Audi 100 CS Quattro? Also, what tools do I need?
A: Well, first, is it a 4 or a 6 in your car? Either way, if you feel up to the challenge, you must be careful. This is not a job to be rushed into by someone inexperienced. If you've never done a timing belt before, its really best to have someone knowledgeable to help you, or even take a mechanic class at the local college. Both are better than destroying an expensive engine because something simple was overlooked. If you want to buy a manual on CD, then go to this link.
Q: whats the radio code for 93 audi 100 and the procedure for entering it.?
I am replacing an original radio in my 1993 audi 100 and the new radio is in safe mode. Is there a default code from the dealer that will unlock it and how do I enter it?
A: There is no default. You must bring the serial number to the dealer to get the code.
Q: Did is the same engine of Porsche's 944-924 and Audi 100?
Did is the same engine of Porsche's 944-924 and Audi 100 of 1980-1982year
A: Yes and no... The original Porsche 924 had been designed as a car that was going to be produced by Audi. However, when that didn't come to be, Porsche decided to use the design as their own entry level car to replace the 912E. As it was designed to be an Audi, it had used a number of VW/Audi parts, including VW's EA831 2.0 L I4 engine, which is the same engine used in the second generation of the Audi 100 (which I think ran through the early 1980s).
However, the 944 and the later 924S used a Porsche engine, and was found only in these cars.
Q: How do I replace Front Brake Pads on My 1993 Audi 100 CS Quattro?
i have replaced brake pads on the rear but the front set-up is different. there are 2 giant hex nuts and two bolts. the hex seems to be for the caliper while the bolts for the caliper bracket. which do i remove? i don't see the usual long bolts on the caliper. there are sensors on the pads too. can't find any instructions or pictures anywhere. help!
A: Here's the best I can do:
Hope it will help you :
Sorry I can't paste the images.
Front brakes, servicing (100/A6 models)
Front brake pads, replacing (100/A6 models)
‒ Remove wheels.
‒ Mark positions of brake pads that are to be used again.
Install again in same place to ensure uniform braking.
‒ → Disconnect harness connector by pressing spring (bottom arrow).
‒ → Remove cap (top arrow) from upper guide pin.
‒ Carefully lift holding strap up a little from lower part of connector with screwdriver, then turn 90 ° to right or left and remove from bracket.
‒ Detach wire for brake pad wear indicator from lower cap.
‒ Remove lower cap.
‒ → Pry brake pad retaining spring out of brake caliper housing with screwdriver, and remove.
‒ → Remove both guide pins from brake caliper.
‒ Remove brake caliper housing.
CAUTION!
◆ Do not loosen brake hose or lines.
◆ Secure the brake caliper with a piece of wire in order to relieve the stress on the brake hose.
◆ Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose.
‒ Remove brake pads from brake caliper housing and remove brake pad carrier.
‒ → Press piston back in brake caliper housing
WARNING!
Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be extracted by mouth through a hose.
CAUTION!
◆ Extract part of the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir before pushing back the pistons.
◆ Use the bleeder bottle or a plastic bottle, which is used only for brake fluid, for extracting the fluid.
◆ If this is not done, particularly if the brake fluid has been topped up in the meantime, brake fluid may flow out and cause damage.
‒ → Install inner brake pad, with brake pad wear indicator wire, in brake caliper housing.
‒ Install outer brake pad on brake pad carrier.
‒ Install brake caliper housing with both guide pins on brake pad carrier and torque guide pins.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
‒ Install both guide pin caps.
‒ Install lower part of connector in bracket.
‒ Clip wire for brake pad wear indicator into hook in lower cap and route appropriately.
‒ Connect harness connector.
‒ Install retaining spring in brake caliper housing.
Note:
Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions.
Good Luck!
Q: My Audi 100 CS is idling funny. It will drop from 7500RPM down to 100RPM and sound like it's about to die and.
then it will be okay. But it accelerates funny since the idle issue came up. What do I do?
A: check your vacuum lines and clean if necessary. Check the MAP sensor and clean if necessary. Could be air filter if it was really really dirty but probably not. Also check to make sure none of the spark plugs are fouling. Check the distributor rotor if it has one and lines.
Q: Can i LEGALLY take the catalytic converter off of my H reg Audi 100?
It's the 2.3E auto. I've heard of other people taking the cats off of their similarly aged cars, but, as i drive for a living, i don't want to break the law.
A: 1993 (J) reg cars in the UK were the first to have cats fitted as a requirement for emissions testing.
If your car was registered before this you can remove the cat and fit a straight through pipe, or replace the exhaust system with a unit from a non-catalised car.
The MOT test is carried out using a percentage of Co not to exceed 4.5%.
By the way- catalisers do NOT reduce emissions, they just convert Co to Co2 plus palladium, irridium and other heavy metals, and we all know that Co2 is a 'green house gas' don't we.
Hope this helps.
Q: 1993 audi 100. The dashboard lights are not working. I put in a new 5amp fuse and it worked fine for a day.?
This morning it stopped working again. Any ideas?
A: If it has blown another there must be a short. Do not put anything higher than a 5 amp fuse in the panel lights. 5 amps at 12 volt equals 60 watts. There is no way you are going to have anywhere near 60 watts of bulb power on you dash panel.
Have you done anything to the car such as fitting a radio or stereo. If you have then this is the first place to look.
Is the cigarette lighter holder tight (make sure it is not moving around).
Generally look around for problems the dash lights sometimes controls things like glove box light, gear select light.
This could be difficult to find.
Best of luck.
