Q: 1998 Audi A4 Quattro makes a whinning noise when turning steering wheel?
I have a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 and just this morning I turned the car on and when I turn the steering wheel, I hear a whinning noise. What could this be?

A: The noise is the pump caveatting by trying to pump air. 1: low fluid 2: foaming fluid 3: wear on the pump impeller letting fluid pass between pump impeller & housing.

Q: Transmission for a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro?
I'm thinking about purchasing a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro from a private seller on Craigslist. The seller states that the car is in good shape but needs a new transmission. I don't anything about cars. How much does a transmission costs, how much would it cost to have it installed?

A: Keep clear major expense to replace

Q: Why would oil be in the socket with spark plugs on a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro?
I have a 1998 Audi A4 V6 Quattro. I recently went to change my spark plugs, when I pulled the boot off of one of the plugs I noticed there was oil on it (Oil was literally dripping from the boot). I checked all six of them and it's the same case for all. What would cause this?

A: tube seals are failed...replace the valve cover gaskets and the tube seals..no more leak

Q: I hear a knocking noise that sounds like it's coming from front passenger side wheel on a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro
I have a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro. When driving the car I hear a knocking noise coming from my front passenger side wheel. I only hear this noise when i'm cruising, when I'm not accelerating or braking. When I accelerate or brake, the noise goes away and sometimes it also goes away when I make a turn. What could this be?

A: Sounds Like Struts Loose, Calliper Mount Bolts Loose. Could be "Rack-n-Pinion" End on that warn. Strut is Most likely!

Q: What could I trade our 2000 Audi A4 Quattro for?
We LOVE our car BUT we have 2 children and we are toooo tight in the car. We need either a SUV or Wagon that has 3rd row or we may even consider (gulp) a Minivan but I would only be interested in a Quest or Odyssey. We would like to do an even swap with a newer vehicle. Any suggestions? How much do we ask for the Audi - it is in pretty nice shape? Should we go to a dealer? We've been burned on craigslist, so I would rather not go that route.

A: If it is the 1.8T, trade-in is about $13.8K and private party sale is $15.2K with typical options. If it is the 3.0 V6, trade is about $16K and private party sale is about $17.9K. As you can see, you will be better selling it yourself rther than trading. You can use your local paper or autotrader.com if you want larger area coverage. You should be able to get an '05 Odyssey in the lowest (LX) trim level and pocket a little money. You should be able to get an '06 Quest except for the highest trim level for you A4. If you can purchase from a private party, you will save approximately $1.5K.

Q: How much is it to fix the breaks on an Audi A4 Quattro?
It is a 2002, I'm looking into buying one, but I hear they are reallly expensive to fix.

A: Between 400-500 for all four. That includes pads, rotors, and labor. Also, you didn't say what year, as a form a preventative maintenance, make sure that the brake fluid is changed.

Q: I have a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 auto that is hard to start when the engine is cold.?
It always starts but it takes 5 to 7 seconds of cranking before it does. When warm, it starts right away. I am concerned that my starter will give out if this continues. The dealer effectively says to "live with it". The check engine light is not on, and there are no computer fault codes. The car has 95,000 miles on it and all normal maintenance has been done. Does anyone have any ideas that I can try? Thank you in advance.

A: The fuel system is suppose to be in constant pressure even with the engine off. It might be that your fuel pressure is dropping after the engine shuts down (for a long time). Try doing this: start the car cold (crank it for 5 to 10 second like you normally do). Let it run for about 5 seconds. Shut it off. Now try to start it again. If it started easily, then it is the fuel pressure problem (because now the pressure is back up). If it still have problems starting then it is probably something else (temp related). I agree with your dealer, live with it. It is cheaper to replace a starter then to go chasing ghosts. Good Luck... P.S. I own 2000 Audi A4. Normally I would suggest you fix a problem while it still small before it become big problem. But I have a feeling this problem is not going to get any bigger.

Q: I have a 96 audi a4 quattro and this morning I went to start the car and all I got was a clicking noise.?
The radio and the dash worked fine. I jumped it and it started fine. I drove to work and turned the engine off. i tried to turn it back on and same thing, the clicking noise, anyone know what this could be?

A: Battery, its probably just a bad battery thats not taking a charge. How far away from home do you work if your altinator is bad you would not be able to drive the car long distances maybe 5-7 miles before the car stalled. i would have the battery replaced.

Q: I own an Audi A4 Quattro and it requires a flat bed tow. Is it possible to load to the truck from the rear?
The car won't start and is in my driveway with no way for the truck to get to the front of the car. I can try to push it out, but if I don't have to I don't want to try. Does anyone from the tow truck industry know if they can back the car onto the flatbed?

A: the end of the flat bed, is tapered, so as long as all of your tires are inflated, the operater will be able to load it on from either front, or back.

Q: How hard is it to convert lights to daytime running lights in an 1999 Audi A4 quattro?

A: It's not hard. A guy with a VAG-COM is going to do it for you on April 17th. A cable with a readout allows you to change 1 number and you are set. That's all it takes...

Q: How do I reset the radio on 2000 audi a4 quattro 2.8L? It won't work and says "safe" after battery died.
The repair shop (not an audi dealer) looked in the manual and when they could not find the unlock code, called the dealer. The dealer said they would unlock it for $80. That seems like a steep price considering all that happened was that the battery died.

A: Look in the back of the owners manual, or in with the factory paperwork in the glovebox, there should be a card or paper with a code number printed on it; this is your radio security code. It prevents somene from being able to use your radio in their car if it's stolen. If you can't find the card, or code number in the owner's manual, call the dealer and give the the VIN #, and they should be able to tell you the code.
